Leinster have begun talks with Drico over contract

"That has been ongoing. Brian is a mature guy. We have been speaking to him constantly with the things that have been coming up in his life to make sure he is alright.

"If he was 24 it would not make much difference, but at 34 he has to make up his mind what's best for him. But as I say we would love him around next year," said Easterby.

"The example he sets in terms of professionalism is ongoing and he is constantly tweaking things to make sure he is getting the best out of his body to perform the best he can on the pitch."

Easterby revealed there would be no move to import a world-class centre to replace O'Driscoll should he decide to retire at the end of the season. Eoin O'Malley, Brendan Macken and, maybe, Luke Fitzgerald would be left to contest the number 13 jersey.

A collage of black and white photography looms over the Gate stage. There are only women in these images; some of them half-naked, others wearing nothing at all. A line from George Bernard Shaw's preface to Mrs Warren's Profession shines over this curious assortment of pictures. Curious, because Bernard Shaw's story of a young woman learning the truth about her mother's wealth needs only the actors on stage to tell it. Similarly, a recording of Risteard Cooper as the voice of Bernard Shaw has all the feel of another unnecessary tool to help audience members 'get it'.
